Can I splice my loose tube fiber to a ribbon fiber cable?

« Go Back

Information

Answer
As long as the fiber is of the same type and diameter, i.e. Singlemode 8/125um or Multimode 50/125um, you can splice loose tube fiber to ribbon fiber cables.  The difference in ribbon versus loose tube is how the individual fibers are packaged within the overall cable.  However, with ribbon cables you can perform a mass fusion splice to other ribbon cables which allows you to splice multiple fibers together at the same time saving installation time.  If you are splicing a ribbon fiber to a loose tube fiber, you must perform one fiber splice at a time.  This requires you to separate the ribbon fiber at the splice cassette into individual fibers, so you can perform a one to one splice connection to the loose tube fiber.
