Direct Air Cooled Systems (DAC) Battery Heater
Supplemental battery heaters for the above referenced cabinets or cabinets that have had the DAC upgrade kit installed on them and does not have enough equipment heat to keep the batteries at operating temperature in extreme cold conditions.
The following heater kits are available per battery string and can be plugged into the 120 volt AC duplex auxiliary receptacle. The heaters include thermostats built in and require no special attentions. It is recommend that the heaters be applied in sites where the ambient temperature is below 32 deg F or 0 deg C and the DC load current draw is below 100 amps with no ancillary internal loads in the cabinet compartment. If the DC loads have a current draw above 100 amps and there is ancillary equipment being operated within the battery area of the cabinet no additional heating should be required for the batteries.
It is recommended that heavy duty, broad temperature rated batteries, like the Enersys PowerSafe SBS batteries be used in all direct ambient air cooled (DEC) applications.
